EDGECAM - Prismatic Milling Fundamentals - US
Rating :
EDG_L1M_TRG1

This introductory 2-day course is the recommended starting point to create toolpath for CNC milling applications using EDGECAM. Students will learn the software workflow recommended for prismatic milling (2.5D) geometries using solid models. This instructor-led training course uses practical examples and provides reasonable time for students to learn topics by completing course exercises.

The course includes the following topics:

- The EDGECAM Launcher and user interface.
- Understanding the typical solids-based software workflow.
- Building the Virtual CAM Setup for CNC milling applications. This includes loading the solid model, orienting the model for the CNC setup, adding stock & workholding, designating the work coordinate system and selecting the CNC machine.
- Feature recognition of prismatic milling geometries using EDGECAM’s excellent automatic feature finder technology.
- Creating toolpath for common prismatic milling geometries utilizing Face Mill, Roughing, Profiling and Hole cycles. Other machining cycles (toolpath types) may also be covered, at the instructor’s discretion.
- Toolpath Simulation. This includes back plotting tool paths, simulation showing 3D material removal, and simulation showing CNC machine movement.
- Generate NC code.
- ToolStore Database essentials, including creating rotating tools such as end mills and drills.
- As students gain confidence in creating toolpath, use of factory-installed machining strategies will be introduced. These toolpath accelerators speed up the process of creating toolpath for solid model features. (This AI capability is sometimes referred to as Knowledge Based Machining and Feature Based Machining. Detailed instruction for customers that want to leverage EDGECAM’s automation potential is available, but is beyond the scope of this course.)
- Additional time-savings tips will be introduced throughout the training course.

Pre-Requisites:

- Familiarity with CNC machining and/or programming.
- Proficient with Microsoft Windows.
- If you have registered for a class hosted in a Hexagon training lab, each student is provided with an EDGECAM workstation and all files used in class.
- If you have registered for web-based training, students will use their workstation which must have EDGECAM 2024.1 version (or newer) installed and licensed prior to attending training. The Sample ToolStore database that is installed with EDGECAM will be used for the course. Student workstations should also have reliable high speed internet connection and microphone/speakers or phone for audio. Dual monitors are strongly recommended.
