EDGECAM - CY Fundamentals
Rating :
EDG_L1T_TRG2:

This course is intended for EDGECAM users with live tooling requirements as part of turning applications. Instruction focuses on CNC machines with turret-type live tooling configured with either XZC or XZYC axes. This instructor-led training uses practical examples and provides reasonable time for students to learn topics by completing course exercises. Each student is provided an EDGECAM workstation with all files used in class.

Applicable Licenses
This course covers capability available on Standard Turning and higher licenses. Training is focused on C and Y axis live tool machining applications, with the focus on single spindle and single turret CNC machines.

This course builds on topics introduced in Turning Fundamentals and is designed to immediately follow as an additional day.

- This option of CY Fundamentals course as a “bolt-on” to Turning Fundamentals allows customers that do not have live tool machining applications to opt out of learning capability they cannot use.

Students will be
introduced to
Building the Virtual CAM Setup with considerations for live tooling (opening the solid, orienting the model for the machining setup, adding stock and workholding, and selecting the CNC machine).
- Feature recognition and toolpath creation for geometries common to CNC machines equipped with live tooling on the turret. These prismatic geometries include holes, flats, slots and pockets found on Z-axis aligned faces, on radial faces, and on cylindrical faces wrapped around the turning spindle.
- Understanding EDGECAM’s Planar and Rotary modes, for user direction of XY, XC and Polar Interpolation methods of NC programming.
- Practical applications of the Hole, Profiling, Slot and Roughing cycles for CY turret-type live tool machining. Other machining cycles (toolpath types) may also be covered, at the instructor’s discretion.

Pre-Requisites
- Successful completion of EDGECAM Turning Fundamentals course.
- Familiarity with your CNC machine capabilities is recommended, but not required.
- If you have registered for a course run in a Hexagon training lab, each student is provided an EDGECAM workstation with all files used in class. Unless otherwise specified, workstations in Hexagon training facilities run Windows 10 operating system.
- If you have registered for web-based training, students will use their company’s workstation which must have EDGECAM 2022.1 version installed and licensed prior to attending training. The Sample ToolStore database that is installed with EDGECAM will be used for the course.
- Student workstations should also have:
     - Reliable High Speed Internet Connection
     - Microphone and Speakers, or a phone for audio
     - Dual Monitors are strongly recommended.
