This advanced 2-day course is ideal for EDGECAM users interested in working on their own post processors. The course is focused on Code Wizard, the software tool used to create EDGECAM post processors. Students will learn the essential skills needed to manage, create, and modify their own post processors. In addition, participants will be exposed to practical uses of EDGECAM’s advanced post processor editing capabilities.
After completing the course, participants should be able to:
- Update and maintain their company’s proven post processors.
- Configure CNC Machine Simulation for 3-axis mills and 2-axis lathes.
- Use basic debugging techniques to better understand “why did my post output _______” and determine “what does ____ option in Code Wizard do”.
In addition to gaining practical working knowledge of Code Wizard, students will learn how to add specialized logic for advanced applications and configure machine kinematics for accurate simulation. Hands-on instruction is provided by a Hexagon Applications Engineer with extensive experience on a wide range of CNC machines. Workshops include practical examples for both milling and turning applications.
The course includes the following topics:
- Code Wizard Interface, which includes thorough overview of the major sections affecting NC code syntax.
- Starting from scratch, students will learn how to create new Milling and Turning post processors. This includes guidance on the various templates available.
- Debugging, including a practical introduction of basic post processor syntax.
- Customizing NC code output using source code logic to add new functionality to Code Wizard post processors.
- Recommendations on how to Prove Out and Maintain post processors. This includes valuable insight on updates to new software versions and regression testing.
- Integrating CNC Machine Simulation for 3-axis mills and 2-axis lathes. This includes instruction on Machine Tool Kinematics for both Milling and Turning post processors. Practical examples include configuring the default parametric graphics and integrating solid CAD models.
Following the course, each student will have the opportunity to schedule an advisory web meeting with the instructor! This is a unique opportunity for coaching as you start applying the techniques learned in the course to the realities of your company’s applications.
Pre-Requisites
- This intermediate level course is focused on post processors. It does not include instruction on how to use EDGECAM. Students are expected to be proficient using EDGECAM for their company’s applications.
- Knowledge of CNC milling and/or turning applications, and NC code syntax.
- Working knowledge of Code Wizard is helpful but not required. Participants interested primarily in developing or maintaining their own post processors will also find this class very informative.
- Proficient with Microsoft Windows.
- If you have registered for a course run in a Hexagon training lab, each student is provided with an EDGECAM workstation and all files used in class.
- EDGECAM 2024.1 version is used for this course.
