The "deviation from target value" chart is a subtype of the value chart which only shows the deviations from the target value (tolerance centre or entered target value). Due to the possibility of standardised representation, characteristics with different tolerance positions as well as tolerance widths can be compared.

1 Deviation from target value
This graphic shows the deviations from a "target value". With this graphic and the adjustable normalisation of the axis, you have the possibility to compare characteristics with different locations and tolerance widths.
The basic idea of the chart becomes apparent when handling the classical value chart. If characteristics with different tolerance positions and/or tolerance widths are to be compared - in superimposed representations or one after the other - the progressions of a single characteristic can only be viewed and compared with great difficulty. (top graph).
With the graph "deviation from target value" (middle graph) or its normalised representation (lower graph), a visual comparison of different tolerance positions and tolerance widths is possible.

In the following chapters, the "type of deviation shown" is explained.
A simplified data set was created for this purpose:
|
Upper specification limit |
10,4 |
|
Lower specification limit |
9,6 |
|
Tolerance middle |
10,00 |
|
Nominal value |
10,1 |
|
Target value |
10,2 |
All measured values have the value 10.0

In the configuration of the value axis, different search patterns can be specified in which order the "target value" is to be searched for.

The explanations always show the value chart on the left for pictorial representation.
1.1 Displayed deviations with non-standardised representation

In the non-standardised representation, the location of the measured values to the limits is visually equal to the value chart. The change can be seen in the value axis and the values of the "specification limits", as well as in the target value line:
Target value

Nominal value

Tolerance middle

1.2 Displayed deviations with normalised representation

With normalised representation, the limits are set to +-1 around the target value. Thus, if the tolerance middle is not the target value, there is a graphical shift of the measured values:
Target value

Nominal value

Tolerance middle
