The Windows user login option allows new Q-DAS users to be created automatically based on the Windows user, and these users can then log in to the Q-DAS desktop application.
All the options described here apply exclusively to the desktop application. These options cannot be used with any of the browser-based products (qs-STAT WEB, solara.MP WEB, RTM or PLV); access to these products is only possible via user input and always requires a password!

Functional description
This document will show you how to use Windows login for Q-DAS Desktop applications.
Any user who logs on to your workstation with a Windows user profile and uses Q-DAS Desktop products can be added to the 'Windows Logon' user group.
The advantage of using Windows login is that, for example, after a new installation, you do not have to create all users again in the system. When this function is used, users are automatically added to the "Windows Logon" user group when they first log on.
They can then be moved directly to other user groups and assigned different user rights.
Alternatively, users in the 'Windows Logon' group can be assigned to a specific user group directly. For these users, the user rights and configuration of the respective user group will automatically apply when they start the Q-DAS application.
Create group Windows registration
The corresponding user group must first be created via user management by right-clicking on 'User Management'. To accept the settings, confirm the dialogue box with 'OK'.

Enable the "Use Windows login" option
After creating the required 'Windows registration' user group, the 'Use Windows registration' option must also be activated. This option can be found in the 'User Management' dialogue. Without this, the new group has no functionality.

Security query
As soon as the option "Use Windows registration" has been activated, a security query appears asking whether "Windows users" that do not yet exist should be created automatically

Automatic creation [Yes]
If the query is confirmed with [Yes], users that do not yet exist will from now on be automatically created based on their "Windows login" and assigned to the "Windows login" user group.
The first login-dialog shows directly the new user:

The User is newly created in the new user group

Automatic creation [No]
If the query is confirmed with [No], "Windows users" that do not yet exist must be initially created manually by the administrator. As soon as this option is activated, the corresponding option is displayed in italics.

In order for the manually created Windows user to be able to log in with his Windows user during the Q-DAS login, the option "Windows user" must be enabled manually for the corresponding user within the user management. The user name has to match with the windows-loging

Login options
By using the "Windows registration" there are additional login options for using the Q-DAS Desktop applications
Login option "always show at program start“
Once the 'Use Windows login' option has been enabled, you can choose whether or not to enable the 'Always show at program startup' option.

| Option disabled |
This allows the corresponding Windows user to go directly through to the Q-DAS application without user selection and password query, as long as the user is not already logged in in another application. |
| Option enabled |
This displays the user name of the corresponding Windows user before the Q-DAS program start. User selection is not possible. |
Login with Q-DAS password
By activating the option "with password", the user must enter his password stored in the Q-DAS user settings for the login when starting the program. The option "always display at programme start" is then automatically enabled.

Log in with Windows user login password
Enabling the 'Log in with Windows password for Windows users' option makes it mandatory for users to enter their Windows login password when starting the programme.

This applies only to users who have been created as Windows users and have the relevant flag set.

Possible combinations for the Q-DAS program start based on the Windows login
Various combinations are available for Q-DAS program startup using the Windows login. Here are some examples:
Start of the application without password request and without user selection
With this combination, the Q-DAS application starts directly, bypassing the password prompt and user selection. The current Windows user is used for Q-DAS login. The options to show module, strategie or database at start are without any function.

Start of the application without password request and without user selection
With this combination, the Q-DAS application starts without prompting for a password or selecting a user. Instead, the user is displayed when the programme starts. However, it is not possible to select a user. The current Windows user is used for the Q-DAS login.

Login with Q-DAS password and user selection
In this configuration, the Q-DAS application is started by selecting a user from the drop-down menu and entering a password. In this case, the Q-DAS password must be used.

Login with Windows password and user selection
In this configuration, the Q-DAS application is started by selecting a user from the drop-down menu and entering a password. In this case, the Windows password must be used.

Login with password and user selection (without pull-down menu)
In this combination, the Q-DAS application starts and the user must enter their username and corresponding Windows login password into the relevant field.

Special login settings at first login
Clicking on the 'Password guidelines' button allows you to specify that the Q-DAS password must be changed when the user first logs on to the Q-DAS application. You can also specify what the Q-DAS password should look like.
This password is not the Windows password! It is the standard Q-DAS password that will be used when a user is selected on any other station. Therefore, even if it is not used, it should be a requirement for the user to define their own Q-DAS password.
Now the corresponding password defaults can be defined

Windows Logon in Q-DAS with "Foreign User"
An often coming question is: we are using the windows login, we require the windows password for Windows-Users
But what happens, when the User which is logged in in Windows is different to the user, which is chosen in the Q-DAS Application? Then his Q-DAS-Password would be used, not the Windows-Password.
There are INI - entries available to change this. Please note: This can maybe have a negative influence on the start of the software!
In all INI-files where this should be activated a new entry is needed: in the section [CONFIG] "

The entry ForeignLDAPCheck=1 will also compare the password of a "not active logged in windows user" with the Network, to check the password, as long as this other user is defined to be a windows user

in very rare situations, maybe also the "WinLogonType" must be set to "2". but there is no real explanation behind this, it depends on the customer network and has to be tested.
