Prepare the engineering model for manufacturing, plan the operations and create then prove the machine programs for production on CNC machines.

From CAD design to CNC machining, the production of discrete components presents many challenges. Certain features cannot be machined because the design did not consider manufacturing constraints. For cutting, the workpiece must be held rigidly and with good accessibility to the different features of the part. The selection of tools and processes requires a detailed understanding to ensure the parts are within specifications and production is profitable. CNC machines should be cutting and not blocked for hours for tweaking and validating the program.
Mistakes can quickly become expensive with repair costs and production delay. This production machining solution helps mitigate these challenges, empowering you to program machines at maximum efficiency.
Simplify programming of complex components and improve CNC machine operation with high quality G-code for shorter setup and cycle time.

The process starts when the design of the part being produced is received. At this point, the 3D CAD model may need modification for better manufacturability. DESIGNER is Hexagon’s CAD for manufacturing solution to prepare a manufacturing-ready model. For instance, if sharp internal corners cannot be machined, you can simply use DESIGNER to quickly alter the model, using its direct modeling capabilities. When the stock is not a simple billet, direct modeling is efficient in generating the stock geometry from the part model. The next step is clamping the stock to the machine. If a bespoke fixture is required, it can be prepared and assembled in DESIGNER and the fixture components themselves can be machined if needed.
DESIGNER also allows you to enrich the model with valuable information for the machining process (PMI) such as GD&T, surface finish, special functions, or custom attributes.
Prepare the machine program in ESPRIT by first selecting the machine from your shop and the necessary equipment for the best operation. With a large library of standard workholding and tooling components, you’re able to build a digital twin of the machining environment.
Recognize the machining features on the 3D model and define the process steps. The system suggests recommended tooling and strategies. You can choose from a powerful suite of strategies for milling, turning, additive, inspection, and part handling. The simulation shows all machine actions for validation of the processes, and it also highlights opportunities for process optimization. The final step is to generate G-code and machining reports to help start production at the machine.
Certain applications can require an additional process certification. With NCSIMUL, you can simulate directly from the G-code for a second level of verification.
NCSIMUL interfaces with ESPRIT and carries over all the program information including tooling, fixturing, and offsets. Verification is available immediately.
Beyond error-proofing, NCSIMUL can remove air-cutting and optimize the cutting conditions for the machine. It will also generate certified G-code and machining documents for the shop floor.
The solution simplifies programming of complex components and improves CNC machine operation with high-quality G-code for shorter setup and cycle time.
